    Enjoy this Mystery French Mle. 1936..Strange placement of serial number on the top left side of the receiver and on the outer bolt stem.. Serial Number 486.. Also a pre war prototype design bayonet...Under the wood the weapon is full of grease.. Cal. 7.54X54...BILL

                Hello Bill,

                You have an interesting piece there that helps to fill in the gap for the pre-post war production.

                Since this was not officially serial numbered, it falls into the category of a wartime/end of war production, but it is very interesting that yours has the seemingly DIY bolt/receiver serial manufacture. It doesn't seem to have any of the normal proofings either.

                I'd be confident that the barrel is dated 40 or 44/45 on this.

                It also seems the bayonet has an interesting modification. Is the bayo numbered at all?
