Bergmann MP18 Based SMG: What is it?

Can anyone identify this SMG, marked 'AUTOMATIC MACHINE PISTOL TANNER'S PATENT'' & 'Model 1923'

It seems to be based on a German Bergman MP18, and uses the Luger Artillery style Snail Drum magazine (Marked B/N)
Yet, the markings are in English. The scope is easily detached and the forgrip looks like it came off a Luger. This grip has a built in 'press-lever' safety.
I have never seen anything like it....
    Is this a one off?
Thanks for your help or passing on to someone who knows...

Sure looks like a MP18 that someone has "dolled" up. Too bad...
    Is it functional?

But the markings seem to be perfectly done and there are no traces of original Bergman markings..

That is really strange. I don't have a clue what this is. I'd like to find out though.

Perhaps it was made in the field by a gun smith?? He might have used the scope and luger grip from destroyed guns??

Or post war assemble made for hunting purpose?

          * For got to add: the stock is probably post war or heavily modified, it sure looks very much like the stocks on our Sako-rifles.

Looks like a basement gunsmithing job to me! He changed the stock, added a luger pistol grip to it, and added a commerical scope and mounts.
Why in the world would anyone put a scope on a machine pistol is anybody's guess?
I agree with "nimble1", too bad, someone ruined a nice Bergmann.

I wonder when this conversion took place. interesting to say the least with a forward pistol grip and scope. wonder if an armory was using it as a base for modifying other weapons. rather odd to add a scope to an mp though

It is an odd one! In looking at it again, I see that it actually has 3 different sights on it..the scope, the original leaf sight on the tube and a tang sight. The tang sight does not even appear tall enough to work and what is the little lever on the rear of the receiver?
Also would love to see a close-up of the Luger grip emblem.
