Beretta 38a MP

Hey Guys.

After too nights of hearing my Beretta 38/42 whine and whimper at night, complaining of how lonely it is, I finally found it a sibling, to keep it company. It is the full-auto, live, Italian MP 38a.
This is WWII vintage, all matching, and runs great.
Also pictured are WWII vintage 9mm ammo., and the rare bayonet for the
Beretta 38a.

Double trigger set up...

One of the things I find interesting about the Beretta MP's is the Double
trigger set up. The rear trigger is for full-auto, and the front for semi-auto.
Interesting fire controls....You can actually have a finger on each, if you
want to go between semi- and full- auto.
The Beretta's are very similar to an MP-40 in terms of the reciever, bolt
though the buffer is different.
Nice, quality built weapon that the Germans favored as well....

wartime ammo...

Here is a box of M-38 Italian ammo, of war-time vintage.
Picked this up at a local gun show.
This ammo. is especially for the MP or "Machina-pistola".
I like the term "machine pistol", as opposed to "sub-machine gun".
I feel it better describes the weapon...
This ammo. is a bit "hotter" than regular war-time issued ammo.
thought at the time, to be better...

Finally, we have the rare bayonet for the 38a and sheath.
I think the term "rare" is widely overused, b/c after 60+ years
and since none of this is made anymore (except by fakers),
IT'S ALL RARE !!! -Anyway, that my soapbox...
The bayonets with sheaths are very hard to come by.

Nice gun Andrew - thanks for showing it.

If you get a chance, please post a photo of the headstamp on the original MP ammo you found. I've got some original Italian MP ammo that a local vet brought back with his MP38/44, but it is all loose and I've been wondering what the box looked like. Thus, I'd like to be able to compare the headstamp on your ammo with what my vet friend gave me.

BTW: On the return trip home from the ETO my vet friend dumped the water out of his canteen and filled it with Italian MP ammo, for use in the MP38/44 he had already mailed home with as much ammo as he could stuff in the package with the gun. The vet still has the canteen and pistol belt (and the MP38/44 as well).

When the vet and I went to shoot the 38/44 the first time, he brought original ammo with him. I quickly persuaded him to use my current production Winchester "white box" 9mm pistol ammo, resulting in him giving me the original MP ammo for my collection. The vet commented that the MP ammo is "a bit hotter than standard pistol ammo" and that when, years ago, he fired the MP ammo in his bring-back P.08 pistol "it shot fire out of the barrel".

That's an interesting story form your vet friend.
Here are the pics. The rounds are marked G.F.L. 9m 38 962
My box has the full 50 rounds, and as you can see from the pics,
they have a bluish-purple lacquer sealant around the primer.
I would like to scare up a few more boxes, both as collector ammo.
and maybe some to actually shoot !!!

I actually passed on a box of this ammo. at one of the gun shows.
I know the guy, and I plan to check with him at an up coming show in January to see if he still has it...

BTW: Your ammo is different from what the WWII vet gave me. I'll try to snap a photo or two of the WWII bring-back ammo and add it to the thread.
