    Sauer 38H Help

Just picked up this late war Sauer 38H, need some grips and an original magazine (if anyone knows of a good source, or have some they'd part with PM me), but thought this would be a nice picture to show the internal workings of the Sauer 38H. Chris

It's interesting how the flash of the camera brought out some "rust" spots, especially on the machined "grip" area of the slide, after taking photos I broke out the CLP and a Qtip and went to work...

          Sauer 38H

The other issue right now is that it doesn't seem to be cocking correctly. I haven't been able to dig out my other Sauers to compare the differences, but I'm curious right off the bat if I need to have a magazine in this in order to cock it. I pull the slide back, and everything seems to move normally, but it just won't cock, I'm sure it's an easy fix... Chris....

The Sauer 38H does have a magazine safety. Repo grips can be found here: http://www.gungrip.com/detail_G108__19.html

              Chris,

you don’t need a magazine inserted for cocking/decocking a Sauer 38/H properly. The problems with your Sauer probably (!) will have to do with the hammer lever, part #34 here:

              http://www.marstar.ca/images/sausohnb.gif

The hammer lever on your pistol looks botched. The punch right to the “H” isn’t normal.

All trouble making Sauer 38/Hs I examined had in fact a problem with the hammer lever and/or with a non matching sear disconnector (part #26). Sometimes, an early sear disconnector is used together with a late hammer lever, what will lead to problems. But most often, the hammer lever is bend.

              Regards

              Martin
