    Mosin Nagant M-38

A local sporting goods store is selling the Mosin Nagant M38 for $100, comes with a bayonet and ammo pouch. What do you think a good deal?

I just went out to lunch, hit the Dunhams sporting goods store and bought the Mosin Nagant M91/30 Russian 1942 dated rifle (I liked the longer rifle better than the M38 carbine) . It is a great condition light wood stock rifle that included a bayonet, sling, oil can, cleaning rods, 1942 dated ammo pouch all for $79. I'm happier than a pig in sh*t!

        Jamie,
Congrats on your Moisin Nagant rifle pick up. They are a lot of fun to shoot and the ammo is very cheap. Just remember to clean it very well after shooting the old corrosive ammo! Don't bother looking to find a sheath for the spike bayonet that came with your rifle. The Soviets did not issue any. That's why you always see photos of These rifles with the bayonets attached. Hi Jamie, that is a great deal! I only wish I lived in the USA too, as I would grab a couple at that price.
BTW canvas scabbards were issued for the bayonet but these are very, very rare. I have a photo of one in a book on WW2 Soviet kit.
          Cheers, Ade.

            Adrian,
I have seen the leather type of scabbard for the long spike bayonets. I have been told that these were only for special guard troops!
Have you ever seen a photo of one being worn in combat?

Finland manufactured and issued bayonet scabbards and frogs for the tremendous ammount of Mosin-Nagant rifles and carbines that they had on hand at Independence, captured from the Russians during the Winter War, and the large number of re-builds they made. Sometimes these are offered for sale.

The only original photos where I've seen the leather scabbard in use are from the Khalkin Gol fighting in 1940(?).

Evewry other time I see it carried reversed on the rifle.
