    Deactivated firearms.

Can anyone explain why deactivated firearms are priced higher than functioning firearms? Alot of dealers websites I've visited in the past have deactivated firearms with prices much higher than what the same item sells for unmolested. Is there a reason for this?

Here in the UK, automatic weapons are not allowed and it is very hard to get a firearms certificate so people buy deacts instead, hence more demand the higher the price

Well, first you have to buy a functioning firearm, then you have to pay to have it de-activated professionaly, then you have to pay for the authorities to proof it and supply a certificate. Simple.

I ve been following the deactivated gun laws in the UK. Did the Home Secretary get what she wanted with regards to UK banning all deactivated weapons? If so did folks have to turn them in?

          Still legal at present.

What tends to happen in the UK is that they will ban the sale and import but not the possession.

Cheaper that way of course - no danger of having to pay compensation.

Collections become valueless but at least you get to keep them.

Thanks for the info. So I guess the Home Secretary didnt get her way with regards to the ban. She seems to be "Barking mad" as my grandmother use to say.

Whilst that could be a road they would like to go down i would guess that they could not get away with zero compensation. The vast majority may have one or two items with the view to reenacting etc.
Many however have extensive collections of great value that are A, an interesting subject to collect and B, essentially thier pension fund. That is not even factoring in the livelyhoods of the dealers and thier stock holdings.

Even if the government were to give a period of grace for offloading items this would not be adequate, as for obvious reasons the flooding of the marketplace with collectables would automatically devalue them due to the basics of supply and demand. And where would you offload them too? Despite the premiss of "european markets" not one country in europe deacts to the same standard and few accept another countries standard. So much for unity.

The collateral damage to associated industries would also be collossal, look at the millions spent by reenactors on equipment provision in uniforms, webbing,
etc etc etc . Outlay on shows, getting to shows, etc etc . Beltring alone in five days brings something in the region of 5 Mil into the south of england when you consider all of the wriggles. Whilst it is probably the biggest example multiply that by all of the other shows round the Uk

Should they go down that route i would honestly like to see a group suit against HM Gov and nail various parts of their anatomy to the walls . Quite frankly i suspect that the situation as it stands mitigates against such a move as the government coffers are bare and they are in a world of crap anyway.

Rather difficult to scream about things when thier own documents show that deacts have little to do with the gun situation, regardless of what the area police chiefs are saying. Plus of course to quote a governmental phrase " We have the most robust gun legislation in the world" At least when it comes to causing grief to law abiding citizens. They just don't bother dealing with the illegal methods even though they have the info on how and where the majority is comming in.

This may sound cynical etc but when you have had enough of the mupppets in control so be it . Fire away and throw in your tenpeneth worth.

I dont think its cynical. I just hope for the future, legal gun ownership will come back for you folks.
Its a shame you have no way of defending yourself/family from a break in, robbery, etc..

To be honest george i am not exactley sitting here woried that i may have to face an intruder. Especially and armed one.

Whilst it gets plenty of publicity via the press etc it is actually a tiny proportion of the crime that occures in this country. I some times wonder if it were not for the internet and computers etc , ie speed of communication just how much coverage it would get. Lets face it used to be you didnt know or it was not reported locally at least. News does not report good stuff anymore, just the bad and preferably something that will goad the authorities or terrorise your
                  average joe.

Most burglars want in and out no fuss and preferably no one home. If he's carrying comming into my home best he mean it, or its going to be located somewhere usfull and uncomfortable.

Iwas reading the posts on the president elect and possible intentions. Look out for the divide and conquer technics. They did it over here dont let it happen thier. At least you guys have a powerfull lobby and organisation.
