    Mg Buttstock

Can anyone tell if these MG42 buttstocks are original WW2 period
i know the Germans fitted the iron straps to re-inforce them because
of the wood splitting as shown on the first one, they are both marked
with the code hvg not one i am familiar with.

The first one is definitely an original buttstock. I have at least three "hvg 44" marked stocks in my collection. If the other is marked hvg 44 as well, then it is no doubt an original too. I think the second one had a copper wire wrap at one time instead of a metal strap like the first. I've read that all wire and strap reinforcements were added later by the waffenmeister.

Yours have definitely seen some use. Thanks for sharing.
