    Gurttrommel markings

This is a newbie question so sorry if this questions is simple.

I recently purchased a mail order Gurttrommel and was told it had wartime markings.

I have now got it and it does indeed have markings h.q.u and 43. I understand this to mean it was made in 1943 by Markes & Co., K.-G., Metallwarenfabrik u. Apparatebau, Luedenscheid.

However, the makers code and date are not in the same typeset or font. Nor do they have the same depth to the letter strikes.
    Was/is this normal?
Or is this a postwar drum that has been made up to look wartime?

I only ask because, in reading other threads there are cases of things been restamped to get numbers etc. matching.

Am I just being overly suspicious?

    TIA fro any replies.

Hi there,I have two of these drums,I always assumed that these were wartime, when alot of these drums and other related MG equipment flooded the market some years back I assumed that they were ex Portuguese army. The other drums are marked wc43 no WaA stamp, bxt 194 1941 with an WaA stamp ex Russian arsenal. There are so many original and repro metal stamps out these days that a lot of items can be faked up.Regards Hans.

With the current state of the world economy ? Being overly suspicious will help you spend your money wisely and on the real item.

        Hans, Will,

        Thanks for your replies.

Are you both saying that this drum has been faked or marked up?

        TIA

        Ken
