Ok I received my Backbone of the Wehrmacht. I love the book it has more info than I was expecting. Can anyone give me any insight to Part II the Sniper variations. Is it worth it?

Vol II, on the Sniper varients (it also has G43, K43, G41, and I think the StG44 as well), is well worth it to purchase! Especially since sniper rifles are priced so much higher now, and that the fakes are getting better and better
If you are interested in purchasing a sniper K98, be sure to do plenty of research so that you know what you are looking at!

OK i'm sold I'm gonna get it as soon as my wife allocates my allowance for the month.

OK Carl next meeting you have to bring the rifle. If its at one of our houses. Macaroni Grill wouldn't appreciate our hobby and the guns even less.

                Horst,

Those aren't K98s!!! Those are M48. These are post war Mauser rifles that were made in Yugoslavia. Mitchells' Mausers is really trying to fool people by presenting these as German K98s. The price for a good M48 is about $100. This site is trying to rip people off!moremad

I wouldn't buy anything from them!

Hey Matt, I have a 98k with all matching #'s except the stock. This weapon was brought back by my wife's dad. Is it possible that the armor had something to do with this?

                      Max,

What kind of K98 do you have? Year, maker? Also what are the numbers on the gun? and on the stock? is the stock numbered?
                      Can you post pics?

                      Matt

                            Frank,

thanks for all your praise! I too was glad that Seba started a firearms forum! It took me a while to convince him though!

Your K98 collection sounds great! would you like to sell that ar 42 sniper? What type of sniper is it set up for? (short side rail, long side rail, high turret mount, low turret, single claw, double claw, or Zf41?) Let me know, and I will keep my eyes open for a scope for you!

                            Max,

Here is all the info I know on your byf 43:

on your stock you should have a 135 on the right side, and on the bottom. Serial numbers should match the gun, however, if you have no serial numbers that is ok too. All parts on your byf 43 should have the 135 proof mark (the only exception would be the bottom of the bolt. It could have the 135 proof or have the 140 proof. Stock should be laminated type, and should be polished and stained. It should have a stock disc, have a cupped buttplate, and milled trigger guard.

The byf43 is one of the most common K98s made ( 1,142,336 made!) The only one that is more common is the byf 44 (1,434,219 made!) However byf code is for Mauser, Obendorf, and the thier quality is considered to be one of the best of the K98 makers! (the best ones are J.P. Sauer, Erma, and Brunn, or ce, ax, and dou or dot respectively)

                            Matt
