I wonder if they know what they want to blast in the furnace... Damn, they should be deactivated and put on auction

I don't get why people send in collectable weapons when they could quite easily have them deactivated and keep or sell them. That's what my mother in law did and the police are fine with that.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

the reason is simple! 99% of people see a gun as a gun! they dont care if its a rare ww2 gun or not also when the police have an amenisty(?) they get a load of old shot guns or guns brought home by grandad and they can proudly say they toke ilegal weapons of the street!trouble is these types of weapons were never on the street in the 1st place and the real guns are still on the street! so the reality is the police dont actauly have to do any REAL work but get to say they have taken weapons off the street!! and the bad guys keep using the real guns on the streets!!ok eerr rant over!!

Yet another crime busting victory for the PC brigade...yeah right....senceless destruction of historic artifacts. But its happening everywhere and funny thing is it dosnt reduce crime or violent offending .
NZ recently destroyed a heap of WWII vintage M2 Browning MGs declared obsolete by the military and are now cutting up no8 Lee Enfield .22 trainers.
I did send a letter off to a few MPs to voice my opinion but other than one reply it didnt prove much
I hear there is a sculpture made from MG34s MP40s and the like in the UK ? is anyone awere of it ? can you post pics?
          Regards

it made my heart bleed to read that the mp 40 might be destroyed... hopefully someone will save it because its a piece of history BUT also the coolest machine gun EVER made.

Quota from the site: "stolen from the germans in WW2"

..they make it sound like it is a bad thing, that it was a crime against the third reich to steal a gun...

anyway, how rare is this gun? i read on wikipedia that the Germans made about 1 million of mp 40... I wonder how many there are still around..it certainly can't be few, they are just out of the market.... mmm I want 1

There is a "sculpture" in Norway at the resistance museum made out of 100-150 K98k's (I am guessing, I have never counted them!). They are all welded to a frame, forming a swastika by the muzzle ends pointing at you as you enter the museum.

The destruction of firearms is a fact of life for many reasons. I have been told that even the Chinese are now destroying the remaining older weapons they have rather than exporting them as collectibles as they did for so many years. My only recommendation is to enjoy what you have and be thankful that,at least for now, it is legal to own most military collectibles in live condition here. As we well know; that's not the case in most of the rest of the world. We could all end up in the same predicament here someday.

God, that made my heart sink. Do the police really think this helps?! All of the police officers I am familiar with are very logical REALISTIC people. Only the most idealistic fool thinks this is a good thing.

Im not sure the entire story is in Norway, but here there is actually days set up where the police dpt. will pay you $100 to turn in a weapon. Anybody who is familiar with the city in which I live, Oakland California, will know that it has a VERY high violent crime rate and a very high homicide rate. Every so often the city of Oakland, and nearby San Francisco, will organize these days where the local police set up a table outside of city hall and pay the citizens $100 to turn in their "evil" fire arms in hopes of lowering gun violence and regaining control of the streets they lost control of years ago. I remember the local news showing the line of people, mostly made up of older, upstanding citizens. In the news clip one of the first guns they showed being turned in was a beautiful BYF P08!!! I wanted to yell at the screen, Ive wanted a Luger for years and to this day I cannot afford one! In this same clip I saw hunting rifles and revolvers and one woman turning in a MUZZLE LOADER! Did I see one of the neanderthal gang bangers turning in their uzis or their ak-47s (yes, the Oakland youth, as young as 14, is somehow getting ahold of assault rifles) or anything for that matter?!?! NO! Just old women turning in their husbands antiques. Great work Oakland, you took yet another dangerous muzzle loader out of the hands of that dangerous 75 year old woman, I sure can sleep better now! Later, they show a clip of the Mayor declaring it a "great success, we received over 800 firearms that are no longer on the streets of our city!" Has the crime rate dropped? NOT ONE BIT!! And all these guns are to be destroyed. They auction off impounded cars to gain revenue for the department, why not auction off the guns?! I know the police could use all the help they can get budget wise. Hell, deactivate them, you will still gain more than their destruction. It really makes me sick. Its like the old saying goes; outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.

Please excuse my rant, sometimes I feel like I am the only one with any logical thought process since I am surrounded by idealistic nut jobs here, so I tend to go off at times, apologies.

                      Kindest regards,
                      -Christopher Dillon

                              Hi Everyone,
I am from Alameda Ca, and I know LordWinter knows where that is, a friend of mine works for the city of oakland Police and he told me that a couple of weeks ago they sent a thompson submachine gun to be destroyed along with all there other confiscated weapons. I couldn't believe what he had told me, and he said they also destroyed a Luger recently. I looked at my friend and I said "really what the hell for" great job OPD for destroying invaluable pieces of history, that werent even in the hands of gang bangers but apparently were confiscated I am assuming by vets or family members of vets.
