Pre War MG 34 Gunners Pouch

I don't think I've ever seen one of these posted here so I thought I would post mine. It is complete and was brought back by an ordnance officer from the Third US Army.

            Hi,

That is without a doubt very nice set.

However I believe that this is a MG13 Gunners pouch not a MG34 one. The difference is that the MG34 pouch had belt loops and not the shoulder strap.

As a reference here is another picture of one:

Would like to know what others think?

            Regards

            Ian

That is what i have always been lead to belive. Having said that of course they are essentially identical items less the sling and the addition of the belt loops.
A logical progression away from a fairly weighty item swinging around and catching on stuff to something less likley to bash your kidneys in.
Pretty sure that in early days 34 gunners would be using them even if it was just whilst waiting for the supply sytem to catch up and issue the new type.

              Regards
              Tim

                Hi Ian,

Yes it did indeed start life as a MG13 pouch. It was then modified with the clip to hold the '34 bolt and the AA sight holder was modified as well.

                Cheers
                Gary

                  Hi Gary,

Thanks for the update - I learn something new about this hobby every day! Is there a date is your pouch?

                  Cheers

                    Hi Ian,

No there is just the waffenampt, no other markings.

                    Cheers
