    @geopop:

    Unfortunately U.S.-items are very hard to find on Ebay Germany. I found some complete "cleaning kits" (cleaning rod, grease and canvas pouch) on Ebay.com but most of them are WW2. Where is the difference between WW2 cleaning kits and post WW2 ones? Which marking on the stock-pouch would fit to my Garand?

    @all: Every question that is answered raises 10 new ones, so I decided to buy literature about this topic. Never thought that this topic is such wide-ranging. Are you able to recommend a good book about the M1 Garand, referring to production-changes (pre WW2 -> end of production) and rifle accessories?

      Good call! I use Poyer and Riesch's M1 Garand, 1936 to 1957. It is very informative, but I have heard that it is known to have a few mistakes in it. I have the 3rd edition. Maybe newere editions have corrected the mistakes.

      I'm guessing Scott Duff must have something. Do a search for him and you'll probably find a book or two by him.

      Good luck! It sounds like you have early stage Garanditis.
