Shipping a rifle usps

I am thinking about selling my MAS 49. Has anyone had any issues shipping a rifle through the USPS? Its big and heavy. I talked to my local post office and they said it would be fine. But these are also the people that lost a registered box for 2 months worth 25k. Sometimes I think they have no idea how to answer questions, they just say whatever pops in their heads.

Looking for some pointers. Thanks

This topic has been covered before in depth, you may want to do a search. I have shipped weapons via USPS w/o any problems. I always include a copy of the licensee it is being shipped to in the box, and use signature confirmation and insurance. Should be fine.... Chris...
