Rare bird here my friends.Late war commercial P-38.Would love to know who else has one. This gun replaced the HP[Heerespistole].Walther was trying to build on the name of the P-38,but at 1800 they didnt get very far.Notice the rough tooling, and the commecial proofs.

                Hi Jason,

Here is a link to one that I own. You are correct. That is a tough variation to find.

a truly rare and very hard to find P.38. I owned one many years ago when I collected P.38's and Walther pocket models. the serial # on mine was 25129.

                        Jason,

Walther didn't number the mags on those guns, as far as we know. If a police unit got the pistol, they may have numbered it but it could have been done post war also. Your's is numbered upside down from the way Walther numbered P.38 mags but who knows how a police armorer would have numbered it.

Here is a link to a similar pistol. It belongs to a friend. We just can't be sure who did the numbering on the mags. It will likely remain a mystery. Although it may be a rare situation, most collectors don't like it because it isn't text book and there is no documentation for it having been done during WWII.

                          Jason,

Once again, your P38 collectiion amazes me! Very nice commercial!

As for the numbering of the magazine, that's really a toss up there. I could have been done wartime by a Police dept. or it could be post war Police, or it could be post war collector "enhanced". Since it doesn't match the gun, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

                          Matt
