    Late! Spreewerk

I thought I would share a "Very late" Spreewerk P38, for the P38 fans. A couple of areas to notice are the; Late style hammer, The placement of the series letter and the WaAmpt located directly above the jvq on the magazine. While not the latest Spreewerk made, a "b" series is getting right towards the end of the war!

            Robert..

....I loved your ultra rare (in that conditiion) pre WW1 Lugers.

This P-38 sure has a nice finish.

But alas to my inquiry. P-38's were never a main interest
of mine. So I have never tryed to reserch this question. Maybe you or some of the P-38 gurus can answer it.

Why do some Spreewerks have a cyq code and some have a cvq code?

My buddie says "the die broke". That makes sence
but I would like to know for sure.

I maybe have only 3 or 4 P-38"s but one is a cvq, I don't know why but I was drawn to it.

              Robert,

              Yet another outstanding P38!
This "cvq" "a-prefix" gun was made in late February-early March, 1945. The "b" prefix was the last run of serial numbers for Spreewerke before the factory was over-run.

This gun has amazingly nice finish for such a late war piece. It has the "cog" hammer, and "jvd" marked mag, which are both correct. Does this gun have any other subcontracted parts? ( barrel, locking block?)

              Johnny,
To answer your question, simply read the article on the P38 on this collectors website home page.

                P38

                Matt,
As usual you always have something nice to say about my "shooter" grade pistols! I will have to strip it down and take a close look at this one for sub- contract parts, I'm really not sure.
These cvq really don't get the play they deserve, they should cvq was the largest producer of p38 during the war!
                Regards,
                Robert

                  Robert,

Actually Robert, Spreewerke was the smallest producer of P38s during the war, just by going by total amount produced.
Walther was the largest producing around 580,000 P38s!
Mauser was second, producing about 340,000 P38s!
Spreewerke was last, producing only 285,000 P38s.

I knew a guy who once told me that he would never buy a Spreewerke P38. He only buys Mauser, or Walther, since he says that the Spreewerke guns are of poor quality. I guess he doesn't know the many of the first Spreewerke guns were made from parts from Walther! Also later guns (like yours) will have parts from Walther, F.N.Browning, "fnh", "bh", "jvd", as well as others!
I have also read documents that state that other manufacturers were being planned to produce the P38 as well. These included F.N. Browning, Styr, J.P.Sauer, CZ, and even ERMA!

PS- Robert, you need to shown everyone else your lovely Radom collection as well!
