M1 Carbine value

Here is another gun I want sell locally and need info on the value. It is an Underwood M1 Carbine with matching barrel. No import marks I can see. It has the later rear sight and bayonet lug. The stock has I guess rebuild letters AAV and a P on it. The serial is 28830XXXX. It is in super condition.

Nice looking carbine. High wood stock, push button safety, flat bolt just like a WW2 configuration but the adjustable rear sight and of course bayonet lug indicate a postwar modification. I'd say this is a $900 rig, likely more.

I agree with Gene.....
The stock marks, other than rebuild, could make a lot of difference. Is there a cartouche? What about other marks on the right side of the stock. What are the marks in the sling well?

GI M1 Carbines were recently selling at Big 5 Sporting Goods for around $1,000. I don't know what kind of condition they were in.

Thanks for the input. I do not see any marks in the sling well or the arsenal marks, of course they could be very faint.

I looked at a few here and thought they were WAY overpriced given the condition. The Blue Sky ones that came in around 20 years ago were in much nicer condition if you remember those.

Out of curiosity, I went to Big 5 and looked at the M 1 carbines they had for sale. PURE JUNK!!! The two I saw looked like they had been painted with black stove enamel to boot. The paint was peeling, and they looked like they had leprosy. Awful, just awful.

The Blue Sky ones that came in around 20 years ago were in much nicer condition if you remember those.

The ex-ROK Blue Sky I bought around 1990 was $150. That was the going price for them at the Turner's sporting goods chain. I only bought one; guess what manufacturer? It was a Rock-Ola!

I am still kicking myself for not having bought more, no matter the make.

I couldn't agree with you more. J&G Sales had hundreds of them in Prescott,AZ and they were in the $150 range and they would let you go thru them and take your pick. I was living in the Chicago area at the time and I didn't want to go thru the hassle of flying back with them. Big $$$$ mistake.

I bought mine ( a post-WWII Springfield) about 8 years ago, in near-mint condition, for $450.

No offense, but all of this reminiscing (sp?) is irrelevant. Prices of all guns, especially military, have increased hugely in thr last 10-20 years. Anyone remember the cost of an 03A4 before Saving Private Ryan? About a G. The value of this rebuilt M1 Carbine is around $800. Maybe more to the right buyer at the right time. About 6 months ago I bought a stone original 12/44 Inland, all original mint and correct, including the milled rear sight, for $800. In Harrison's book, it is called the "Model of 1945". Came off of Gunbroker. Maybe I got lucky. I also remember the Blue Sky carbines and Garands. Most of the barrels I saw on the Garands were crap.

My Blue Sky Garand barrel was awful.Can you say,"6 inch groups at 100 yards",it didnt last long in my inventory.Although It was cheap,300 bucks,ahhh the good old days....

The m1 carbines at big 5 I think come from cai or thats what I have heard and I have also looked at them and they are deff. not worth dropping 1000 dollars for one

I guess the prices are getting crazy for carbines and Garands. My M1 is in very good shape, I originally bought it for a wall hanger. I have never fired it I have many other rifles for that.
