    Opinions on SS marked pistols

A friend here in Normandy has 2 pistols (deactivated unfortunately, but that is the way the law goes here) My question is on markings they both have. One is a Radom p35(p), A serial series, 4 figure number, cut for a shoulder stock. The other is a p27(t), serial 137XXX with Bohemische Waffenfabrik stamping on the "spine" of the slide. Both pistols have minute SS runes stamped on each sides On the Radom they are on the slide just in front of the milled cocking grip area, left and right. On the p27 they are on the frame, right hand side, just to the rear on the WaW76 stamp, and on the left side of the slide, to the rear of the cocking grip. All of these stamps require a "glass" to see, being slightly smaller that the letters on the Waffenamy stamps. I will try to scan them, but they are so small it may not be easy.
Have any of you run across such marks before? They are so small it is hard to believe they are there to deceive, in fact my friend was unaware of them for many years, untill someone pointed them out.

SS marked pistol are the most commony faked Nazi era pistols. The trick with these is not proving they are fake, it is proving the markings are authentic. SS markings are much debated in an organization I belong to, The National Automatic Pistol Collectors Association, where the membership predominately collects Nazi era pistols. The opinion there is that 98% are fake. Few SS marked pistols can be authenticated, the exception being Walther PPs and PPKs which until recently were equally difficult. These are not marked with runes but it is the placement of the serial numbers that indicates these are SS contract.

I would recommend posting photos on this site - http://www.p38forum.com/
    and asking your question there.

If you would like I can PM my email address and I will be happy to post your photos to the NAPCA website for opinions there. NAPCA has many authors of collector books as members and I am sure we can find out something there from the experts. The NAPCA forum is open only to members of the asssociation.

Thank you. I will post scans so you can decide if it is worth bothering another forum The stamps are minute, I tried filling with white powder, but still difficult. My friend is not a firearms collector, he got the gunsyears ago in a car deal, so the SS possibility did not feature.
