Can a gun be imported from Canada to U.S.?

I was wondering if a gun, a non-machine gun, that would otherwise be legal to own in the U.S. be imported to the U.S. from Canada? The gun I am referring to is the BD-44 (a semi-auto replica of the MP-44) that Marstar has for around $3,000 while they have been advertised in the U.S. as "coming soon" and carry a $4,995 price tag. Marstar ads say they have them in stock.

If it isnt an assault weapon then yes, it can be imported.

At present these are not BATF approved for import.

You can find additional information on the G43 forum - http://gk43forum.com/forum/main.php

The version Marstar is selling is not compliant and cannot be imported. The version that IO is selling has been modified and the design has been ATF approved.IO had offered them for $1000 less a few months back.

I see where there have been quite a few rumors floating around about these, lawsuits, maybe approved, maybe not, etc. It seems those that ordered them from IOINC early may be getting them at a much lower price, if they get delivered. Thanks for that link to the G/K-43 forum.

You are more than welcome. This controversy has been going on for several years and is no closer being resolved than it was when it started. I would keep my money in my pocket if I were you until the flood gates open on these things.

I have 2 of the first 10 MP44c's on order. I have been asssured that they are ATF approved. Also IO has not and will not take any money until these are ready to ship.

Be very careful when dealing with IO, they have some customer service issues.

It was also not too long ago IO had some big problems with ATF over some of their imports. I and a good number of others had to surrender parts kits bought from IO to ATF because of IOs mishandling of the cut receivers. No, they did not refund the money we paid them for the kits.

I wonder if anyone other than IO will get permission to bring these in? I understand they must do some work to make these legal to pass the regs but if Marstar is selling them for less than $3,000 and IO now is saying they will be $4,995, seems they are planning on making a tidy profit. If they offered them at a somewhat lower price, I feel they would make up the difference in volume sales.
I have had good luck ordering small items from them but I know of several people having problems with them in the past, it seemed they were somewhat "honesty challenged".
I am wondering about magazines for these guns will be a problem also. The Bittrich site said that they were utilizing original mags, if I read it correctly. I saw where a place called www.fortunelot.com has reproduction MP-44 mags for $129 but I know nothing of the quality or if they will work with the new guns.
I can only hope that they become available and at a reasonable price with mags, blanks and blank adapters available also.

If they plan on using original magazines then the answer to your question is a big YES, it will be a problem. I have owned original MP43/44s since 1983 and magazines have always been difficult to find and they are expensive when you do. It has been hard enough to find them for original guns and if you introduce a flood of semi auto replicas without magazines the problem will only get much worse.

I have issues dealing with companies such as fortunelot.com, that do not provide a physical address or phone number on their website. Causes me to put them in the Fly-By-Night category of business operations. Without references from people I know I will not do business with them.

They have new made mags that are stamped BD44. IO has them for $150 and will be avaliable when the guns are about ready to ship. They can also take real mags as well.
