3 New guns and Thompson .45acp mags

    Hello everyone,

I just got 3 new guns as well as some Thompson mags. Only 1 of the 3 guns has some historical value. But I thought I would show off my AMT .380 backup as well. The one gun with some historical value is the German Ortigies .25acp pistol, the finish is original and it seems everything matches. Any idea if it's worth much, I think it's made by Erfurt. It's marked "DEUTSCHE WERK - WERK ERFURT"

    Pretty badass I know

Can anyone tell me what era the Thompson mags are from? They are all marked
    "THE SEYMOUR PRODUCTS CO."
    "SEYMOUR.CONN."

Oh and I got some .30-06 tracers

It's been a fun weekend, all comments are welcome.

    Rylan,

The Ortgies pistols were made IN Erfurt and not BY Erfurt. I mean it had no relation with the Imperial (Governmental) Arsenal that worked in that city up till 1918. Deutsche Werk was the commercial name of its maker and the Ortgies pistols were produced from c. 1919 until 1929 (or something like that - I don't have my books with me right now). They were mostly made in .25ACP and a bigger version in .32ACP and were very well made.

    Douglas.

Let me know how you like that AMT; I have a line on one but aside from seeing them in pics and in a display case, I don't know much about them.

        Hi Gene,

The AMT Backup is an interesting pistol. I carried one for years and never had a problem with it(I ended up selling it to a cop friend of mine and still miss it after 15 years!). But they are finicky. I almost never disassembled mine for cleaning because if I did it took about 500 rounds through it to get it reliable again. They are really easy to carry and if you don't mind going through the Any Other Weapon paperwork you can pick up one of the Galco wallet holsters and no one wil know you are armed.

Is this pistol technically an AOW? I've heard of their finicky nature and that's what I want to avoid!

Gene, I haven't yet shot the AMT, but already I like it. What I don't like is this:

-Low magazine cap, only 5 rounds.
-Even 9mm has its "haters", so .380acp isn't very powerful. Not much stopping power.
-The slide doesn't lock back, which isn't uncommon on smaller pistols... but still.

            What I do like:

            -comfortable to hold
-the safety is in a very convenient place, and is easily switched off with your thumb if you're in a hurry
-very cool design, and it has "soft" edges. Nothing sharp or sticking out that could potentially get caught on something.

And my favorite part is this... lets face it, this is one sexy pistol

            BTW, what is "AOW"?

              Hi Gene,

It's only a AOW if it's paired with the holster. As far as their finickiness goes if you find one that functions just don't clean it . That's what I did!

                Hi Rylan,

It stands for Any Other Weapon which in ATF parlance means any weapon that is regulated by the NFA but is not a machine gun, suppressor, short barreled rifle or short barreled shotgun. Instead of the 200 transfer tax the AOW transfer tax is 5 dollars if memory serves.

Thanks for that info Doug, I just assumed that Erfurt (the company that made Lugers) also made these ortigies pistols.

By chance can anyone tell me about the Thompson mags?? I would be curious to know a little more about them.

The Thompson mags are nothing special, just WW2 production....are they blocked to 5 rounds?

Gary, he's is Canada, he's not gonna be carrying that AMT anywhere legally, and if he ever shoots someone with it in self defense, he's gonna be in more trouble than the person he shot even if said person was attempting to kill him.

Any handgun with a barrel length under 4.25-4.5", (they do it in mm, I forget what the exact number is, might be 120mm.....) or if chambered in .25 or .32 cal regardless is a prohibited weapon in Canada. This gentleman likely has maintained possession of grandfathered prohibiteds that he possessed prior to the date of the legislation, making him one of the few Canadian gun owners allowed to acquire and possess 12(6) category (prohibited) firearms.

                      Hi Bob,

I was answering Gene's question. And while he lives in The Third Moon of Jupiter(or is it on???? a whole different ketlle of fish from me in Carson) it is not Canada...yet

                      Cheers

So they are WW2 production, that's good to hear.

Yeah thanks for reminding me, our laws arn't fun okay!!

I'm 16, so I won't ever be 12(6). I just use my dads PAL to buy the guns I want. I will be able to keep my 12(6) prohib handguns under the 12(7) status though.

So how do you know about Canadian gun laws, your location says Kuwait??
