Q re: Jap laminated holsters...

Wondering if I could get some advice from a few of the more knowledgable members.... is there a specific way I should treat the Jap T-14 laminated holsters and straps? Should they be sealed in a ziploc, soaked in water overnight (just kidding), treated with anything like a cleaner or softener, anything like that? Or just left untouched-perhaps in a ziploc?

Good question, Sir. The ones' I have feel like they would break like a saltine cracker if you bent them more than once or twice. I'm looking fwd to an answer too!!

There isn't a lot you can do for them unfortunately.The best advice is to keep them out of heat and sunlight. If you seal them they will still breakdown over time. There isn't really anything you can treat them with that will help. Some people have said you can warm up the hinge with a hair dryer to open or close them but that still puts stress on the material. Once the rubber on these start to go there isn't much you can do.....the rubber that was used to make them is very unstable.

You can soften the stiff parts with a hair dryer but, from what I understand, they will just harden again. I have not personally tried that, only heard of it.

I know of no way to treat the rubberized canvas to permanently soften it. They did change the formulation of the rubberized canvas late war and it stayed soft. I have one of those. The strap and spare ammo pouch are as flexible as leather.
