    I have no idea?

It appears that the serial number was ground off the barrel then the area was permitted to rust. Is there a serial number on the front of the frame benearh the barrel? Or was that also removed?

Hello, there is no number there but it has not been removed. That spot on this pistol is smooth w/ original blue. This pistol belonged to an Arkansas state trooper. He is now in really bad shape. His son (also an Arkansas state trooper) is who I got this from. He is a good friend of mine. Is there any other spot that would have a serial number?

Looks like a 1906 Navy Luger with altered safety - one of the first ones issued. This model, when not messed, is highly collectable and sought after by the collectors. The frame and the marks appears to be correct for this Navy variant.

However, what happened to the barrel and and lack of serial number in the frame are two issues that raise a red flag... the magazine is from a WWII Luger and not original for this gun. In my opinion, the serial number was also removed from the frame: on the picture #2 you can see that the front frame has suffered a kind of "descolorization" of the same sort as the barrel.

          Just my two pennies.

          Douglas.

I will have to go get it back out and take some better pics of it.
            Thanks, Scott

There are also two different serial numbers on the toggle, #51 and #100.
What could have been a very expensive item is ending up as an amalgam of parts.
              Still way cool looking.

The 100 on the toggle is part of the rear sight.

There are major concerns with this piece-it is on another forum or two as well.

Too bad it is/was very desireable.
A shooter or parts gun now, but the serial number is an issue.

I am just going to sell it back to my friend. He has expressed interest in getting it back.
                  Thanks, Scott

There are two full serial numbers on all 1906 Navy model Lugers. On this pistol one has been ground off the barrel, baqsed upon the photo and you said there is none on the front of the frame directly under the barrel where is would have been placed when made at the DWM factory. You have a pistol with ground off/removed serial numbers. It is a crime to posses this weapon.
