Hi Anthony blasting off a full magazine from one of these puppies is one of the best experiences but why stop there they have some seriously cool weaponry and the staff are superb. I cant remember who the dealer was but a mate of mine who collects firearms picked it up and checked it out so he may remember i will give him a bell. The giant is back at leeds june the 29th so i would wager the dealer and the MP40 will be back.

The only paperwork involved in buying a deactivated weapon in UK is to make sure that the gun has an official proof house deactivation certificate. There are only two official proof houses in the UK which are based near London and Birmingham. Even if a deactivation certificate has been lost it is possible to have it reissued after having it re-inspected by the proof house that originally deactivated the weapon.

Currently there is no need to obtain any other permission or licence to buy a deactivated weapon, though of course there is uncertainty for how long this is going to last. Here in Hong Kong we require approval to own deactivated weapons and are subject to regular security inspections. Deactivated weapons are treated like live weapons here.

Exporting deactivated weapons from the UK is a nightmare. Although deactivated weapons are expressly exempted from the UK strategic commodities export licence requirements the UK Trade Department (BERR) officials frequently give conflicting advice claiming that an export licence is required. A UK export licence is however required to export accessories such as tripods, optics and spare magazines from the UK so it is not always possible to avoid official export (and import) paperwork.

The UK post office refuses to handle deactivated weapons and most airlines are nowadays very wary about shipping deactivated weapons overseas from the UK.

It may well be easier to ship deactivated weapons to the EU, but it certainly takes a lot of time and effort to ship deactivated weapons from the UK to this part of the world.

So it means that you can't just buy a spare MP44 mag or ZF4 in the UK and take it back to the Continent in your checked baggage??

Spare magazines are routinely bought and sold in the UK without any paperwork.

I need a Hong Kong import licence to import deactivated guns and accessories such as spare magazines into Hong Kong. A Hong Kong import licence will only be issued on sight of a UK deactivation certificate in the case of a deactivated weapon. No import licence will be issued for accessories (such as spare magazines) unless I first obtain a UK export licence. So it is simply a case of "no UK export then no HK import licence".

For us in Hong Kong we have no real choice. Either we obtain a UK export licence (in order to obtain a Hong Kong import licence) or simply import an accessory (such as a spare magazine) into Hong Kong without an appropriate licence and run a real risk of an immediate prison term.

The police and trade department officials are very sensitive to illegal arms being brought into Hong Kong. Not so distant memories of shoot-outs with armed robbers wielding AK47s in the main shopping districts here (the robbers were directly recruited from China on a contract job basis) have made our authorities very gun shy and as a result they follow the rules very strictly.
