I'm a very doubting Thomas that this gun left the factory this way... Please show close-ups on the bolt, cocking piece, safety, floorplate, and bands...

I agree with Bob- the bolt looks renumbered- the saftey doesn't have enough of the serial either, should be 4 digits. Also, to me the floorplate and trigger guard look renumbered/refinished as well. Still, the price wasn't bad- an all matching one would be 3 times that, so perhaps the seller knew.

I've Checked Over This Rifle And There Is No Evidence That Any Numbers Were Removed And Others Stamped In There Place The Machine Marks On The Parts In Question Show No Evidence Of Having Been Polished Or Ground Down And Remain Consistant With The Surrounding Exsisting Marks, also I Have Disassembled The Rifle And All The Components Inside The Trigger Group Are All Marked With The S/n Or The Last Two Digits As Is The Sight Which Is Marked In The Same Font And In Places Where It Would Be Impossible To Re-stamp Or Remove Another Number. I Have Seen Other K98's On Which Only The Last Two Digits Were Stamped On The Safety, I Don't Think That The Numbers Were Removed And Re-stamped There Either There Appears To Be No Evidence Of Polishing Or Grinding. The Font On The Numbers Is Consistant Throughout The Rifle, with The Exception Of The Main S/n On The Receiver And The Wear Throughout Is Consistant With The Rifle's Age And Use. Thank You For All Your Comments They Are Appreciated ,like I Said Before I'm Happy With The Rifle.

This is about education... Any collector worth his salt will confirm this bolt is bogus...

If you are happy with it, thats all that matters. Like i said, you did ok even at that price.

Just realize when you sell it one day, you are going to get hammered by people because of the issues. It's not hard to renumber guns- fakers do it all the time. Hell- you can buy the correct size bolt stamps on ebay all day long.

I hope you don't think I'm attacking you- just trying to help. Knowledge is power. Yes, some safties only have 2 digits- bnz42's have 4.

I concur. Bolt numbering has issues. Listen to Mike, BIO and Bodes, they know what they are talking about.

You put something up for comment and display on a public forum, you got to expect opinions.

There are a couple irregularities with this piece and some folks with considerable experience have tossed them out.

Glad you are happy with it.

Bluediv , you just got your rifle looked at by some heavy hitters. I would trust thier judgement. Even I think the bolt was renumbered after I looked again. But hey It still is a beautiful gun and it is the real thing . Shoot it and have fun with it. In 200 years no1 will care its not all matching Also MikeP I just noticed your avatar, I picked up that patch at the sos this year, minus the black part.
