    M1911

    I just aquirred this from the vets son.It was made by Union Switch & signal I believe in 1943 and was issued in 1944 in Italy. Appears to have had only a few rounds fired through it and has only holster wear.

      How much do they go for nowadays?I know that it depends on the maker, but let's say a common one remington made

          According to Clawson, the serial number range is between 1041405 and 1096404. Best to check to be sure the original slide is on the original frame.

            Depending on condition the low end is around $900 average most going in the $1100 - 1200 USD range. I did come close last August to buying a Remington-Rand in its original shipping box for $2000 but I decided to put the money toward a couple of Lugers at that show.

              Looks like a very nice US&S... CH47 is correct check the SN.. There were only around 55,000 US&S .45 autos... but there were 1000s of spare US&S slides.. Which over the years have been mated with Remington, Colt, and Ithaca 1911A1 frames, and a few 1911 frames.......BILL

                i think one would be hard pressed to find one of these for $900-$1200 these days! try at least twice that if not more... i was just at the ohio gun collectors show and the prices were waay up there,,,,

                  I field stripped it to clean.

                  While researching this piece I didn't realize how much more these are worth compared to my P08's & P38's.

                  I'll post the picture of the vet in Italy wearing this set up in 1944 when I recieve them.

                        He was asking about Remington Rands not US&S.

                        The Ohio Gun Collectors Show and SOS for that matter are both known for high prices. If you troll the online auctions you will see people asking the high price you wrote about but you do not see the guns selling at that price. The prices I quoted are what I see these guns sold for, not asking prices.

                        As an example of inflated prices at these shows, at the last SOS I had picked up a Thompson I had bought the previous month from an Indiana dealer. I had paid $15000 for this Thompson, a dealer at the show had a Thompson in worse condition asking $24,000 for it. Same make, only a few hundred numbers off on the serial numbers. The seller was a bit embarrassed when someone looking at the $24000 Thompson on the table asked me how much I paid for mine, when he heard $9000 less than that one he walked off. As I said the asking price and the selling price are two very different things.

                        A lot of these dealers with the high prices are sitting there hoping some fresh fish will come waltzing by with more money than he has common sense or knowledge to make a smart buy.
