    Fleamarket Sniper Scope - Dailytan 4x

    I went to a little flea market that is around the corner from where I live in Hamburg on Sunday, and an antique dealer there had this scope for sale.
    It was not that expensive so I picked it up.
    It has a fair amount of surface rust, but the bluing underneath apears to be still mostly there. The sights are crystal clear.
    I assume this scope is for a K98. As I know very little about these scopes, I would appreciate:
    1. Some general information on what type of scope this is and when they were produced/used.
    2. Information on what type of gun this would be mounted on (any K98 or just special models)?
    3. What mounting pieces am I missing, if any?
    4. Is there anything I can/should do about the surface rust?

        I thought your location Midwest in somewhere in US ...

        To your scope, its a sniper scope for 98K with low turret mounts, the rear
        mount is missing. This for the first shot, because i am in office right now,
        and have no books here for pics of rear mount ... try WD40 for removing the
        rust and be very carefull ... the prices for sniper scopes with mount are not really cheap

          Your scope is a 'Low Turret' type of mount for first type 98k sniper rifles.. Here is a picture of a 'high turret' in my collection same type of mounting system and rear mount....BILL

              Thank you for your postings.

              Bill - from your posting, you say that the scope is for the 'first type' of 98k sniper rifle. Does that mean that I need a specific K98 to mount this scope onto?

              Can anyone give me a rough idea of what the missing mounts are going to cost me and where I might find them?

                This was the first type of mount for the Turret style sniper rifles, and was found to be not sturdy enough, then Mauser came out with the high turret style... I don't know of any original extra parts for these scopes...BILL

                        I think i have to dissagree this scope is set up for the ZF42 set up, the mounts is stamped on the rings not the rim and the serial number is a 5 digit serial which would be BYF43 at least and not many LT have been seen in 1943. i think this scope was altered post war in the fact that the front ring was milled to be USED on a LT set for some reason or another a picture on the bottom of the front ring will tell more.
