Copdoc,
Any chance I could get a photocopy of the 1968 Amnesty registration advertisement you picked up? I'm into machineguns and am very interested in all aspects of the 1968 Amnesty. I would enjoy a copy of the ad that not only shows the gun registration portion, but that also shows the surrounding ads and the ID of the newspaper (at the top of the page).
I would be grateful for any assistance you can provide.
Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan
You certanly can get a copy. Sorry for the slow response. I did not mean to be rude. I forgot to subscribe to my own thread. Do you want better digital pic or xerography? I am going to get a frame for it. LOL Just a part of history.
I also have one of the first ATF booklets that they gave me in about 1973-74 in a class. I think is the same one that came out in 1968-69. It should be in the same pile or nearby LOL. It has pics of the Boyes AT gun, pen guns, MGs etc. They updated it a few times. It is the samll yellow book. You may have one but if you want to see it let me know.

Copdoc,
Thanks for the generous response, and a photocopy will be just fine for me.
The main point I am interested in is that the Amnesty notice was, apparently, published in newspapers of general circulation. I was not previously aware of this (having seen the Amnesty notice posters that were mailed out to all U.S. Post Offices, for posting).
I have one of the ID booklets you mention, so I am good on that.
Please let me know what to send you for postage and reproduction charges.
Thanks,
Alan

No charge, uh unless you are in Singapore or somewhere like that. Email me.
There are at least 2 versions of the ID yellow ID booklet and I think I had a larger green one. I wish I had kept the poster from the Post Office but they had thrown it away. I was pretty smart at 16 to even think to ask. LOL The only thing I have ben smart about.
Have you read the book, "I Denies the Alligations and damns the Allegators"? by Joe Carter. It is blast of the past with stories of moonshiners and the ATU that later became the ATF.

Here is a brochure for something that got added
And somethng added at a later date.
I thought you guys might enjoy the old brochures.
Here is the book, very entertaining.

Interesting post on the "Striker" shotgun. Funny thing that a lot of folks don't know is that ALL 12 guage shotguns would qualify as "Destructive Devices" under the National Firearms Act, but for BATFE finding most 12 guage shotguns to have "legitimate sporting purposes" and, therefore, not classifed as DD's. Literally, with the stroke of a pen, BATFE could reverse itself (as it has done in the past) and make all shotguns subject to the NFA's registration, transfer, and tax requirements - just like it did with the Striker.
Most "Elmer Fudds" with their Krieghoff shotguns really just don't know how much they have in common with machineguns, DD's and other weapons that are subject to the NFA. Thus, next time one of them spouts off about "no one needing a machinegun", it might be high time to get them up to speed on the NFA's provisions for firearms having a bore diameter in excess of .50 inches. They can then go measure the bore on their 12 guage over/under skeet gun and start thinking about BATFE's rulemaking authority and how it just might be applied to them (particularly under the top down directives likely to be given to BATFE under an Obama or Clinton Presidency).

Very true Allen
If over 50 cal they have the authority to be classified as DD. They prob would have an amnisty for the shotguns, BUT they do not have to. It would be difficult to for example, ban shotguns with a barrel shorter than 28" since the barrel length is specifically listed in law, but if it held more than one shot or had any other feature it could be banned without a change in law, just policy. I have to admit I was surprised when a shotgun was banned. (Striker) since it is smooth bore. It would have been a great skeet gun. I would guess the sporting use clause is unconstitutional but we would have to wait on a court case and that may never come.
