    M3 Carbine

This is a stop gap to give Uncle Bill some time to keep diggin in the upstairs for more US stuff.

US M3 with Set No1 20,000 Volt sniperscope and m3 flash hider. I have had the scope and mounting bar for 30 some years and finally found a carbine missing the rear sight (hate to remove one or change parts in original carbines even to make them match) and needing some work to put it one. It even came with the cut handguard.

PS looking for the black bag and a resistance pot.

I used the scope 30 some years ago with a home made resistance pot and the manual is right. 20,000 volts will probably not kill the operator but might knock him unconsciense. It did neither but it did hurt. I had a small leak in the HV putty.

I thought this was interesting. the GI Joe version of the old model taken on same floor. I think I could do a little detail painting, streighten the barrel and digital edit it a bit and it would be really hard to tell it was a toy.

      Thanks Cris

I had to get the pics fast and put it back in Uncle Bill's attic before he knows I "borrowed" it. Which parts do you want photographed? (or just more guns?)

PS Uncle Bill. If you read this I am kidding I have one just exactly like yours.

It'd be neat to see some closeups of the optics and markings....I've never seen one in real life....

            Copdoc,
Great carbine!! You have a phase of carbine collecting that I've been wanting to get into for a long time. And I've never even got a smell of anything about an M3, much less as complete as you have shown. Congratulations, Sir!! Thanks for showing!! Color me GREEN!!

I'll try to get some more pics this weekend. Wow I didn't realize there would be this much interest. The carbine is just a regular M1 with the mounting bar, still in the process of restoration. It is on a 6 digit Inland that had about a 3/8th" torch cut on the right. I made a piece and a professional welded it in place. When it was remilled it is hard to tell where it was. I forgot the slide and blt but will pick them up soon.

                    Good, Good!!
Thanks for the add'l info Copdoc!! I can remember seeing those things in Army Surplus stores when I was young(er). Even cheap as they were back then, I still couldn't have afforded one then. And not now either, methinks....

                    Thanks again.

You are welcome. Don't feel too bad, I was young and could not afford to buy a working one either. This one was given to me with the image tube, resistance pot and mounting bar missing. If I had to buy it now I prob could not afford it either.

I found a mounting bar in a box of junk at a show for $25 which was cheap for the mounting bar even in the 70s. I remember going from table to table asking and getting some funny looks. At about the last one the guy said there has been a run on them but I have one left and pushed a box of junk over for me to look through. There was one in the box with a bunch of old gun parts. Sam had "I need mounting bars" written in several areas of his catalog so this was pretty lucky.

I bought 2 image tubes from Edmund and wanted to buy more but this was still a bit of $$$ for a college student. I made a resistance pot but it had a high voltage leak so I took it apart.

I just got the carbine about a year ago. With luck, it had the handguard/stock cuts for the scope base.

Like the flamthrower and several other "projects" it has taken a long time to get everything.

I still need the black rubberized battery bag and a real resistance pot.

Sam also advertised the earlier scopes and parts but these dried up by the late 1970s.

                          Nice one.

After posting this I was contacted and got a bag and resistance pot. I have not had time to check one of the powers supples yet to see it I can get it to work.

                          Does the scope work?

how similar is the u.s. rig to the german 'wampir'(sic?)?
