    p38 grips black or brown

hi , which was more common in ww2 with the p38's? black or brown grips and were they both a bakerlite material? thanks

I have encountered both equally. Some look better than others on both sides. They can be a funky mottled red/black to a deep chocolate brown to mottled black and in between. The prettiest grips I have encountered are just a beautiful orange/red/black on a pair of Walther '45 P-38s. One had no letter prefix, the other was an "A". Very similiar and really nice.

Walther and Spreewerk used grips thoughout German production that were made of Bakelite. Mauser used the same grips as Walther until about mid 1944 when they started using the soft, shiny black plastic grips. Mauser used those plastic grips until the end of the war.
