    Mystery 9mm Round Container

Can anyone identify this item? At a show I was directed to a fellow named Walter who described this item to me on the chance I could identify it, but I was mystified. He said he got it from another fellow, a veteran who brought it back from the war along with a luger. Walter said he got the items from the family of the veteran but he has no background information, and has always wondered what it is and the reason for producing such a thing.

It is a two-piece screw apart thin brass cylinder made to contain one 9mm round. Here is part of the Email from Walter describing it:

The left side of the case has the inscription "THORENS" on it (in fancy script lettering )

See anything like it before or know any one that has ?

All I know is that Thorens is located it Switzerland /France and they made sound equipment starting in the 1800's .
Like record players , etc. I don't know if they were commissioned to make these up for a specific reason or what ?
The thing is , why would a soldier bring this back from the war , with a 9mm luger bullet in it ? and store it with the
Luger when he got back here ? There has to be some sort of connection -- wouldn't you think ? The family of the
old fellow that brought it back , said the same thing !

You may want to pass this info on as well . It may be of some help ?

    Interesting . eh?

Here are three of the pictures Walter sent me, all quite blurry unfortunately.

There is no connection to 9mm or ammo anything. Why would a GI do it...jeez louise when I was in uniform little containers like that were great for putting bits of kit or nick-nacks in you might otherwise loose in your ruck or pockets. A 9mm cartridge fits in it - great , the GI probably did that just because he could and left it like that. The cartridge looks like it was carried loose in a pocket for sometime due to it's external wear.
This all seems a case of rading too much into something.

          Cartridge holder

Maybe it is a "save the last one for yourself" bullet container or cyanide!
          Just my 2 cents

I'm speculating here but due to the name on this perhaps the case was originally used to store spare needles for a phonograph.

Well that seems to cover the bases. Either totally unrelated to ammunition as gew98 speculated, or possibly (but rather unlikely) a "save the last bullet for yourself" container.

The suggestion by Jim that it was for holding spare needles for phonographs sounds very logical. Thanks for your input guys.

              Regards, Will.

Your're right. Thorens was a manufacter of grammophones.

And the container is for needles.

                  wow this was a stretch.

I learned something new today about old school audio equipment at least.

I would not disagree on that point, but I would mention again, as Walter did, that at the time the veteran's family parted company with the items the brass container came complete with the pictured 9mm inside. Now whether the vet himself put it in there at some point, or he brought it back that way from the war...just don't know.

Это контейнер от запасных игл для граммофона . Патрон мог быть вставлен внутрь для хранения как неприкосновенный запас для себя на случай опасности взятия в плен, но это только предположение.
