    Ren Wax

Hi I think if you do a Yahoo search for Renaissance Wax you will find several suppliers. It's not cheap especially with shipping charges but is a mighty fine product Tomt

I got mine from an eBay dealer. This one in fact. He was very fast in shipping and a nice perosn to deal with.

As for Renaissance Wax..... Best product I have EVER used and glad to have learned about it on these forums!

        Ren Wax Source

        Hello,

Here is another source. They probably have the smaller can as well. I've used it on edged weapons and quite like it. Remember...a little bit goes a long long way so unless you are going to coat hundreds of items you won't need the big can.

While we are on this subject, whats the UK or European equivalent of Simichrome ?
I assume the renaissance wax is for preserving and simichrome is for cleaning ?

No offense Rich, but Simichrome.... <<<shudder>>>

I know it is all based on someone's school of thought or opinion, but I have seena couple of daggers that were semi-chromed and they did NOt look original to me. I am not sure if this actually brings down the value or not?

I am asking as I am here to learn. I always felt that I was just "borrowing" a piece of history by having it in my collection and wanted it kept in the same condition I got it in. (Neutralize it) I know the wax does this, but am unsure of Simichrome.

I was simply curious...I have heard that simichrome can be a bit harsh.
Was trying to read into the cleaning properties of the wax..does it clean as well as preserve ?? I certainly aint going to take my daggers to a buffing wheel !

The wax is a neutral agent that protects the finish of what it is applied to. Prevents dust graying, fingerprint damage, small moisture damage.

I have seen daggers cleaned with Semichrome and they look very shiny, but not period. To me, they almost look as if they have been chromed. I think they actually loose their value to be so aggressively cleaned and to make sure I didn't put my foot in my mouth, I read the directions for using Semichrome for dagger cleaning. It advises that it will remove runner marks, but to clean in the same direction as the crossgraining or it will remove it too.....

I have no doubt you take good care of your edged weapons Sturgis!
