If you are collecting or just wanting to learn about German k98k rifles the book is worth owning and is to my knowledge the most comprehensive work published on the subject. There are a number of errors therefore the collector can not hang on every word, photo, chart, and serial number range/production estimate given.

For instance I believe that the Mauser byf production estimates given for both 1943 and 1944 are about 2X higher than the real number. Reasons for this probably lie in the assumption that 100,000 were produced in each letter block before going to the next. Evidence shows that the actual number may have averaged closer to 50,000 and the letters were changed on the month rather than being driven by a quantity reached.

The parts descriptions for each maker by year is very ambitous and of some help but is also too simple as other combination than those listed can be found in many cases.

Hi thanks for the info. As in all factual text books there are errors. Is there a better alternative to this that you know of? Im not so much interested in the given facts on production, markings etc being 100% accurate, as one can always cross reference, moreso in it being a general guide and a good read.
      regards

Yes, I think that you will be happy with the book and find it very intersting and informative. In most respects there is nothing else published on the 98k (even collectively) that can approach it as far as I am aware of.
