    P.38 question

Was wondering if any of you guys know how to date a spreewerke p.38. it is a "g" suffix and both the grips and the holster have a '41 date, although I did not think CYQ's were made until 42. Any info would be great.

    P38

According to Buxton's estimates on production rates a G suffix would be:
    Jul 43 3001f-3000g
    Aug 43 3001g-3000h

First serial production around August of 42.....

thanks for the info. after breaking it down, I found it also has a starburst and some extra eagle firing proofs on the barrel lug and locking block area. it is also the most finely machined cyq I have ever seen - not up to early AC quality, but way nicer than most spreewerkes.

I too have a cyq.....its a shame that they are looked on with such distaste, some do not even consider them P38's!

          Ben and Robert--
I concurr with Chris's dating of the weapon. I submit that your study of the P 38 forum will give you some excellent information on "cyq's", and all other P 38's. It's a great bunch of guys over there.
And yes, it's a shame a lot of folks look down their noses at cyq's. They are much tighter q.c. than the Walthers or Mausers. Just the exterior finish is often lacking. But then again, some of the finish work on them is quite good. Just depends on who was working that day, I guess.
And, they can be a special collecting interest group. I'm saying that one of these days soon, the value of cyq's will skyrocket. Simply cause they are a "step-child". There were fewer of them made than all the others. I have five in my aggregation, and proudly display them with all the shiney Walthers. They are what they are, and are an excellent example of the efforts of the war machine of the Germans in it's last throes. History at it's best.

          Congratulations on your acquisition, Sir!!
