Help ID a Couple of K98 Slings?

    Help ID a Couple of K98 Slings?

    I have 2 K98 slings that I could use some help with. One came with my new K-98 that I posted yesterday. The other I'm not sure about.

    The first came with my rifle and is well worn. It is black, smooth leather. The leather keeper with the stud is obviously just a replacement.

      The end of the sling has a round circular stamp that reads "STOLLA WIEN"

      Could anybody help me shed some light on the pedigree of this thing?

        The second sling looks more promising, but I still have some doubts that it is just not a well used post-war sling.

        It is unmarked, and worn, but in good dhape.

                This part is marked "???? Wuppertal 1938"

                I'm no sling expert. This sling looks good, but it does smell like leather? If It was WWII era sling, I wonder if it should?

                Any help would be appreciated.

                  Sorry they are both post war slings, see how on this original...the fixed post on the buckle are ground flush and on yours they protrude...http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=sling (thanks to Eric)...however the frosch on the second one looks original WW2.

                      However, the 1938 Wuppertal keeper here is original, while the keeper shown on the other thread is not.....

                          Not all WWII German used and even probably German made slings had these posts ground down. I've see some and there is even one on the sling "experts" site that has these un-ground.....same for the line of stitching as the slot end of the keeper.

                            Hmmm....I have never seen one on an original, I have handled over a hundred, and neither has this person...http://www.averan.com/fake_images/fakes.htm
                            in this hobby though I wouldn't be surprised...though I would like to see a pic of one.

                              Rick, I have seen this only on a few that I was satified were 100% untouched 45 bring backs with un-touched slings.

                              The problem with looking at a hundred or even a thousand (or going thru a large batch of several thousand that were surrendered in Western Europe in 44/45!) is that there would have been maybe 20 million slings made! Even if there was only one per rifle made (not likely) with 98ks, 33/40, 98/40, G43....etc..that is maybe 15 million total!!

                              There is a lot of possibility for variation in that number.
