    Variation of flare guns....

    Hi all,

    Just a little post for people who like flare guns.
    Here is the last one I found yesterday.
    For information, this Leuchtpistole looks like the classic 'Heer' model (known as the Model 34).
    But, in fact, it's a Model 26. The fabrication and finish are better and its weight is quite bigger that the M34 (made in steel and not in duralumin)
    The barrel is a 'short' one (difficult to find one with a long barrel).
    Here are some pictures of this piece and for comparison, some picture of the model 34 (made a year later in 1937 instead of 1936 by the same manufacturer). You will see the differences.

    strange,a steel made flare gun from 1936,i have never seen.perhaps walther had som old steel parts they wantedto use.I tought the steel walther production ended in 1934.

      Hi Ayf,

      I have the same question ... In 1934, the Model 34 is born.
      So, in theory, flare guns made after this date shouldn't be done in steel..

      As you seen, all the parts of this one are made of steel and it's a matching number piece.. so, as you propose, it has maybe been manufactured later (in 1936) based on spare parts or maybe it's an long barel which has been shortcut in 1936 ?

      Any other idea are welcome..

        Walther flare guns

        If you look at the trigger guard, I believe your steel flaregun is a 34 version, as the earlier model had a small trigger guard, note also the military style numbering, 1-4 digits and a small letter instead of a 5 digit number.

        I also have 1935 and 36 dated steel models in my collection that are the 34 model.

        I also have 1935 and 36 dated aluminum models

        I also have the early N 2004 26 style steel Walthers, both long and short barrels with dates of 1936 and 1937 on them. The dates have been added after being reworked by simpson, and usually proofed with an eagle 6 simpson rework proof.

          Thanks very much for your post and explanation.
          I will go to sleep tonight less stupid (well.. I hope so and on that specific subject of course).

          Unfortunaltly, at the moment, that is the older german flare gun I have today.. I have to continue my quest .. and find a real 26 model.

          Any pictures from your collection would be welcome

            Hi BrunoH, I will look through my variations and see if I can find a duplicate that I can sell or trade. I know I have a rare long barrel version for $1500. I have to see if I can find a short barrel variation. Do you have a preferance ??

            By the way, I also have a holster for one of my long barrel '26's, and a 1928 dated holster for a short barrel version ! proving that the factory made short barrel versions of the early '26, and that they are all not military cut downs.
