You cannot compare the price of transferrable full-auto weapins in the US to any other country.
For example, an M1928A1 TSMG, licensed and transferrable would probably cost you around 1000-1200$ in Belgium, while that same gun in the US would set you back many thousands of $.

It's just different laws and availablity that make for those prices....

Oh well, I was $501 too high in my estimate of what it would sell for! But then again, there is the commission. . .

Yes it went for a lot more than the other 20 or 30 just like it that I have seen for sale this last year...he should have waited for the next local show and done some price shopping.

Actually, you can do some shopping around on prices: A guy in Alabama just posted his 2nd Model FG for $115K this week, after the Stern auction. I believe there is a Birmingham, AL gunshow this weekend, and the seller indicated that he would have it at the show for inspection.

Thus, two (2) live and fully transferable FG's were offered for sale here in the U.S. in the same week.

would a M60 be worth that much?

I think the main reason for this auction result was not the gun itself but it was the scope!! There are only 4 original mounts of that style known to exist.
