    Mosin Nagant Sniper

    Hello All, I came across this, not knowing much about these at all, except they are heavily faked. Can I get some expert opinions on this one? Does it appear to be a WW2 era example? All parts do appear to have the same amount of wear, optics are pretty clear, I see no SA or Hungarian markings that I can tell. Thank you all for looking,

      the extra number on the left hand side of action is beleived to be ( by some ) to be the serial number of the scope originally issued with the rifle. It all looks good to me. I have one but not as tidy..was shooting it yesterday and they are very impresive to fire! Im no expert but found a lot of info at the link below.

          Nice M-N, Joe. one of those has been on my "to buy" list for over a year now. At this point, I'd even settle for one of the "fakes".

            Hi Joe,

            Nice rifle, my observations are as follows:
            Bolt and receiver serial numbers don't match, neither does the magazine floorplate or butt plate. I would expect them to match, even on a re-furbished sniper.
            Scope and mount look legit WWII items, some scopes are dated others are not. The rough machineing marks are a good sign as post war mounts were cast.
            From what I can see in the pictures, the inlet on the stock has been there a long time which is a good thing.
            1944 manufactured Izhevsk PU snipers (like yours) are the most commonly encountered ones which is another plus.

            Are you able to show us the inside of the receiver where it has been drilled for the scope mount? It is possible this was a de-comissioned sniper that has been re-snipered recently.

                Non matching numbers

                Dont sweat to much over the non matching numbers, I recall the first lot of these that surfaced here in NZ were mismatched, still original just had a harder life. I was a bit weary of this when I picked my one up but on doing a bit of research and asking around its all good.
                Always nice to have a matched one but at the end of the day its still a nice peice.
