Anyone here ever take apart an MGZ40 sight

I have bought an MGZ40 sight for the German MG42/34's. It needs some work, if anyone here has ever taken one apart please let me know. I will post some pictures of some of the internals in a day or two for those who have these sights. I have taken mine down somewhat..... I also need someone to confirm if I have all the convex lenses in place in mine, or if I am missing some internal parts. The image as it currently sits is upside down.... Chris......
Feel free to post here or PM me if you have taken on this task.....

    re sight

    Hi Chris

Cant say ive done an MGZ40 but ive stripped a few of the more conventional german scopes.

When you say the image is upside down would that be the actuall image of the target or the graticule ?

The graticule, i believe, is actually etched very finely on the lense on these things hence the glow of illumination you get with the light source.

If it is the target it would appear that an inverter lense may have been robbed or incorrectly placed.

Watch out for tiny shims etc, loss can really knock out a scope.
Hope i am not teaching you to suck eggs !!!! If so launch said eggs in my direction.

Thanks Tim! The graticules are correct, I have the inverted V which is correct. Whatever you are viewing through the lens is upside down however. I am trying to figure out if I am missing a lens or if I have a lens in the lower assembly that is reversed. H. Dv. 448/3 is the German manual that covers the optic, it may be covered in other manuals as well. If anyone has a copy of this manual or another that shows the positions of all the lens, and even breakdown of the scope that would be awesome. A scan out of the original manual would put me miles ahead! Chris.....

I'm having trouble with Photobucket tonight, so hopefully these go through, this is the insides of an MGZ40 for those that have/or haven't seen one. I have the top prism, just haven't torn into the bottom yet. That will be more complicated, I also need to remove the side cover and relube the coarse and fine elevation housing area/gears. I'm assuming that the round side cover for the elevation gear just comes right off, I started to turn a couple of the screws, they turned a hair and just froze up, I'm guessing that there is rust on the backside of the screws, so I'll need to get a screwdriver that fits perfect, and some liqui d wrench as well. Still looking for a sight can for the MGZ40, that will be a tough one to find. Chris.....

Well, I found my problem, I found an individual kind enough to take apart their scope for me...I am missing this entire assembly. So, if anyone out there has one of these, or knows of a "ground dug" scope in fairly good condition that I might be able to canabalize some parts out of shoot me a PM. I am also looking for a MGZ40 scope can box to complete this, however if anyone has either model of scope can with the guts missing out of it PM about that as I can reconstruct one. My odds of finding the missing prism are low, it'll take some time . Thanks, Chris...
