    My early RC K98

Hi, I don't believe I have showed my k98 yet...had it out to the range so I decided to take a few pics. I like the history that comes with the rcs, and the price.
I like this one alot, besides the early date...all parts seem to be early, all milled parts, the two different eagles marked both on the metal and the stock...I think it is a nice representive piece. Oh by the way the bore is perfect.
I was never sure about the markings on the bottom of the stock...maybe one of you know...also next to the trigger guard is something that looks like a weimar eagle lines in wing show up better (pic is not so good), what do you all think. Thanks in advance.

You’re not the only one! Some collectors avoid RCs like the plague, but I like their character; not to mention their lower price!

Your K98k is a very nice example, made by J.P. Sauer & Sohn Suhl in 1937 (Sauer made up to 8975r that year). Like you said, it is a great representative example, retaining both waffenamts and Weimar eagles. I really like the finish of the stock! Your K98 has more matching parts than one usually sees in a Russian Capture, the exception being the stock, which was made by Mauser-Werke Borgsigwalde, Berlin in 1937 or 1938. On the bright side though, even the mismatched parts that I can see look like they are from older K98s.

The cartouche below the trigger guard looks like a large Weimar proof to me as well, complete with what looks like a very small waffenamt above that, but I could be wrong.

Very nice example of an Russian-Captured early K98!

No problem. I went back and did some more research. I found out that I made a mistake; the waffenamt "WaA280" found on the stock was used by more than one manufacturer, not just Mauser-Werke in Borsigwalde-Berlin. It was also used by Erfurter Maschinenfabrik ( ERMA ) from 1935-1941 and J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl in 1944 (but the Weimar eagles on the stock most likely rule out this maker), besides being used by Mauser-Werke, Borsigwalde-Berlin from 1937-1938.

So the stock was most likely made by either Mauser-Werke, Borsigwalde-Berlin (which is most likely) or Erfurter Maschinenfabrik (ERMA). Sorry about my error.

BTW, the "H" below the Weimar eagle on the side of the stock stands for "Heer" (German Army).

Let's see what the other guys think.

Yes, it was cut for the ZF41. I don't know how I missed that!
