Steve, Looks like a nice dual-tone P38.....Partially blued, mostly phosphated.....Proper black grips for a Mauser made P38.....I personally don't have any problems with it.....Price or otherwise.....Bodes

I seen a CYQ go for that much with out the original wartime holster and only one mismatching mag go for $700. Which in my opinion is the full value or a little more than full value for a CYQ which is the least desirable of the WWII p38's. If I were you as others have siad I would take the deal.

Wow thanks for all the great information ! I do dabble in guns a little, but my knowledge is limited so your opinions are very much appreciated.

Well I guess I'll go after this thing over the weekend and see what happens.

Gee... if I'm able to get it I sure hope one of you guys have a nice 1911/1911.A1 I can trade this gun towards or some minty buckles. hint..hint..

            Many thanks,
            Steve

That is a nice looking P38. Additonally, the hoster and two mags make this a complete rig. For $700 this is a pretty good deal. I would grab it fast.

By the way, see if the family has any paper work on the pistol--bring back, or capture papers. And try to get any history on its capture. These items make it a more desirable P38 and gives you more history background for this old warrior.

At $700, you could repost it here and the line would be around the block to take it off your hands.

Very nice rig, and a bargain to boot!

                        Steve,

That is what is known as a Mauser dual tone. Towards the end of the war they were experimenting with a phosphate finish. As you noted on this one the barrel is blued. This is a correct variation and worth that asking price in my opinion, even from the family. A dealers price would likely be quite a bit higher. If you decide to sell it please contact me as I would be interested. I may have something to trade that you would be interested in.

                        Regards,
                        Ron

                          Steve,
I would wait for a second opinion from some of the more knowledgeable P.38 guys here, but walther (ac) did make 2 tone pistols in 44, more out of necessity than any style considerations, and the blued barrel and phosphate finish on the frame and slide look right. if that one comes with the holster and 2mags (esp. if they are not mismatched) I would say that 700 is a smoking hot price. 20 years from now you will kick yourself if you dont get it.

                            Hi BR,

It was Mauser (byf, svw) who made the dual tone P.38s in late 1944 & 1945. You can find "ac" on some of the Mauser dual tone slides, however, those slides were made by FN in Belgium for Walther but were shipped to Mauser for assembly on their guns. The waffenamt number of "135" on the right side of the slide assures that the gun was made by Mauser.

The magazines should not have matching numbers (if that is what you meant) because Mauser never numbered their mags nor did Spreewerk. Walther is the only one who did and then only until early 1942.

                            Regards, Leon

                              Hi

Not sure of prices in USA but if was on here in UK would get your arm bitten off in the rush to buy it especially as it has a holster too, am assuming thats included.
