Looking for Quality k98 as issued photo's

Hi everyone, new here, but old everywhere else...and feeling it. Hey, I am looking for photo's of k98's as issued by the Wehrmacht. Not pictures of currently refurbished or even those that are in the hands of a WWII soldier, but new, as issued. It seems that a lot of people have an idea of what they actually looked like, or a perception, but what did they really look like?

I have a great uncle that was conscripted in Altenburgish in 1942, served in Italy for the entire campaign, and all he remembers(he is 83 years old) is being given a "blonde" bare wood k98. All the ones that I see appear to be 'dark'. He said his was so new, it smelled like fresh cut lumber. Like the rest in his regiment, they slathered 'mink' oil all over them to water proof 'em. He still does not remember it becoming as dark as mine is (I have a CE 44).

Anybody have any pictures of originals?

K98k's came brand new with several different types and shades of wood stocks.

If you discount all of the solid wood stocks in walnut, oak and maybe elm you are left with the laminated beech stocks that were sent from the factory in both very light un-stained wood to medium brown stained wood. There was also the use of both "white" and "red" glue that impacted stock color as well. There certainly was no one look that characterized even factory new 98k rifles much less the ones after issue and use...as your story illustrates.
