Papa Nambu and Mint Arisaka Rifles

Hi All,

I posted this in the Japanese section but got no answer. What does an arsenal re-blued papa nambu, with holster and lanyard go for these days?

Also the guy has a stone mint type 38 arisaka carbine with rubberized sling and a stone mint type 99 arisaka rifle. What would be realistic value of these?

Bill, At last year's SOS I picked up a nice papa rig in the 6,000 serial range. It came with a decent holster with shoulder strap and one matching mag. No lanyard though. I paid $2600.00 for the rig.
Arisakas have been on the rise lately and the prices that I saw at the SOS this year really floored me! I would guess that a minty all correct type 38 carbine would be $800.00 serial range, while a type 99 would be in the $500-700. range . There would be some variables of course. The devil is always in the details. Jeff

I would say that you got a good buy on the Papa. I saw a holster yesterday on ebay go for in the $700 range and it was a long way from excellent condition if you know what I mean. I see a lot of clean but real common variation Type 14's selling in the $800 + range. I guess that I am trying to say that a Papa with holster is much much rarer than 2X the price of a common variation Type 14 with holster...which is about what you paid.

Hi All,

Here are some pics of the Arisaka Rifles. The type 38 is missing the magazine cover. The type 99 is missing the cleaning rod. I also got 2 mint bayonets with the rifles.

I would say 300-400 for the 99 if every thing matches and about the same for the carbine if every thing matches.

The show of shows prices on arisakas were NUTS!!!!! There were mismatches for 300, I saw a mismatch/refinished rifle with a mismatched dust cover for 400 dollars just because it had the mum on it, the show of shows prices arent representative of arisaka prices.

Nice 99 and 38 carbine. I have a type 38 and bayonet my uncle brought home off Iwo Jima. Those look new compared to mine.

How can I tell what series these arisaka rifles are? These weapons were also taken at IWO. I have a nice news paper article about the guy his son emailed me.

If it has capture papers and other things to make the Iwo story rock solid, expect a premium if they are sold. If no paperwork, its just a rifle.
