German rifle of some kind G98/40 ??

Hello forum...

I found this rifle... and was wondering what it is?

It looks like a K-98..... but... it's marked: G98/40 ??

It has Nazi proofs all over. But... is missing the bolt, and the release lever... and probably other items too.

The parts that are there... all seem to match. The gun appears to be unissued.... just poorly stored, and stripped?

What is the band doing behind the bolt area to the stock? Is this a "duffle bag cut?"

I don't remember seeing a "band" on German rifles in this area???
