    Inglis Hi Power

    Guys;
    Just picked up this Inglis Hi Power at a local show. On the Left side of the slide it is marked MK. I* Browning-F.N. 9MM.H.P. Inglis, Canada. On the right side is the sn# 3Txxxx on the barral slide and frame. On the frame is a C with a arrow in it. and a couple of inspector stamps. It has the black painted finish with black plastic grips and fixed rear site on a hump. It still has the lanyard ring on it. The Mag has the letters JI on it in a couple of spots.

    Is there any way to check in SN# for when it was made, or who had it?
    Thanks;

    Hi Christian,

    Probably not who it was issued to, but if I had my reference books handy I could get you a year of production. I am sure someone will be able to help you on that however. It was issued to Commonwealth troops though which is nice. The vast majority you see have the CH in the serial number denoting sale to the Chinese army.

      inglis info.

      I'm not sure if this will be of any help or not but is this inglis hi-power
      parkerized or does it have a coating?
      I have seen very original examples and have also seen re-furbed ones.
      Sometimes the re-furbed ones are even sold as originals whether the seller
      knew or not....

      I would like to add one thing though about whether or not there may be a
      CH on the barrel, I have heard and I have also read that the CH means that
      it was for export during the korean war, in support of the chinese nationalists.
      I'm not quite sure though as if there are no chinese markings along the slide,
      which there should be, if for export, then it's most likely not an export version.

      Some inglis hi-powers also have a decal on the grip, I have seen loads of
      photos of such decals in place while being ready for shipment at the inglis
      factory during ww2.
      I have also seen mint, unused examples....without.
      This gives me reason to believe that these may have been made very late
      in the war.
      Depending on the manufactured date, I think there are several ways these
      can be found regarding markings, etc.

      The exact pistols are being used right now in Afghanistan by the canucks, so
      if the pistol does have a coating, then most likely it's been re-furbed at some
      point, post ww2.

      Hope this is helpful.
