    Luger Magazines

    Hi

I have recently moved house and these two Luger magazines resurfaced. They were from a Luger I handed in during the 1997 ban and kept them as they were only paying £10 compensation for spare magazines. What are these worth today I wonder?:

Mag 1: Came with the Erfurt 1916 4" Luger I handed in. Wooden baseplate with serial number 4021 and what looks like a nickel type finish to the body of the magazine.

Mag 2: Came with the above Luger when I bought it back in 1991. Aluminium baseplate with serial number 7453 and a styilised S and a small cross. Blue finish to the body of the magazine and marked P.08 and fxo over a 37 waffenampt.

Both mags rate very good to excellent condition.

    Cheers

    Hi,
Depending which county your in, it a possible slap on the wrists as some local police areas class them as part of a section weapon? and have to be deactivated ,what complete BS

Agree: Complete BS and here is why:

Magazines are not classified as component parts under the Firearms Act 1968, or any of the subsequent ammendments of 1982, 1989 or 1997. This is irrespective of whether the magazine is off a Section 1, 2 or 5 firearm.

That said I am an FAC holder and collector with section 7 authority so even if they were I would still be allowed to possess them

To answer your question, if in nice condition those mags would bring around $250 - $300 total in the U.S. today...

From where I live in the US that would be a bit high, unless you find someone that needed those numbers to match their Pistol.

I think $125 - $200 max is more realistic depending on condition.

I am referring to price for Each!

              Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

The general concensus on prices here in the UK now seems to be around £75 for the WW1 wooden based magazine and £60 for the WW2 fxo magazine so arround the $250 mark for both I reckon. I've no plans to sell them but was curious as to their worth on the current market.

Apparently there were a load of ex East German Vopo Lugers released here several years ago all with post war plastic grips and post war mags. Original mags and grips are now well sort after to bring them back to original wartime spec it seems.

              Cheers

Yes, that is the way I see it as well here in the U.S. Nice conditon Luger mags that are not E.German reworks are hard to find for under $100 in my experience. The early military wood bottom are sought after if the bases are well intact and the later FXOs while more common are very sought after by shooters as they are considered the best functioning of all of the mag variations. On a good day either can fetch near $150. Straight up near mint black composition bottom FXO mags will bring $200+ each all day long.

Did you recieve any compensation for the Luger when you handed it in?
A friend of mine presented a P.38 and recieved nothing......

                    Hi

Yes I did rather well out of the hand in financially.

I went for the Class C compensation for the Luger and got around £400 for it as I recall. (I paid £125 for it back in 1991). It was handed in minus the mags, grips, side plate and toggle pin

I also handed in several 1911A1's, a WW2 Browning, a Beretta 1934 and a host of modern stuff. I think I tripled my initial investment in compensation received.

Did it make any difference to the crime levels in the UK? Not one bit! Infact armed crime has gone up dramatically since the ban.

"Handle" the guns - this means giving them to the police or some other authority for some sort of payment? But what happens then wut hthe guns? Are they deactivated, or kept somewhere, or scrapped?
