    Mauser K98 value

I have had this K98 in my closet for over 20 years and I am contemplating on selling it. It is in very good shape, but missing the sling and cleaning rod. I have never fired it nor looked down the bore, What is its value in todays marketplace?

If all the serial numbers match on all the parts and it isn't import marked, I would say somewhere around the $600 and up range but I have not kept up on Kar98k prices lately. Get other opinions.

Assuming the gun is in the condition it looks to be with all matching #s and a good bore to match, it is an 800.00-1000.00 gun minimum. You can buy the rod for 25.00. Import marks would take it down to 600.00 in that condition

Very nice K98! One this nice is probably worth from $700-$800, a little less if it is import-marked. I agree with Vid, you could get a replacement rod for around $20-$25. A new sling will run you around $25.

I agree, if it is all matching don't you dare put a 25$ sling on it.

I stand corrected. Horrific error on my part.

No biggy, if you have a rebuild, a Yugo sling is fine and people see these slings and don't know the market, think they can be bought for 25.00.

But to take a nice original gun and add one is the equivalent of Drinking Dom out of a Dixie cup.

Looks like a nice piece though and the market does vary on these depending on the area believe it or not.

                  Best,

                  Kris

Perhaps its just the pics but the subject rifle appears to have an incorrect 'H' style front bbl band. If that is correct, it brings the complete stock assembly into question. If just a front band than likely a dufflecut. Any of these factors will adjust price down a little to a lot.

If this were a 100% matching, period correct, K98k dou44 the actual value would be in excess of $1K.

                      K98

I will post some pics. I do have repo sling and rod, but did not want to put it on the gun. I will check all the numbers. Dumb question but, how do you check the bore? I collect a lot of weapons, I need to go out to the range

Go to a gun store and buy a cleaning kit (8mm/32 caliber) and a "bore light". Run solvent drenched patches down the barrel followed by clean ones until no more gunk is found. Then open the bolt, put the bore light into the chamber, then look down the muzzle and see how the rifling looks. If there is any pitting (which happens when corrosive ammo was fired and the barrel not cleaned immediately afterwards) or if it looks dark, then you'll have a less than desireable barrel even though the rest of the rifle may be fantastic. Collectors tend to want guns that look as though they can be taken to the range for a full day of shooting even though they may have no such desire.
