    BSW 1937 dated MG34

    Hello,

I am currently in possesion of a Licensed deactivated BSW 1937 dated MG34 with the "tight" vent holes on the barrel jacket (4 hole type forward of the Bipod) and as is usually the case there are numerous WaAmt stamps covering all the weapon parts including the early steel tipped Bakelite Butt.

The weapon is fully strippable although the barrel cannot by removed (UK Deact law).

I have read Folke Myrvang's book on the 34 & 42 and clearly this early weapon (or weapon part) is reasonably rare as 34 experts will know these early barrel jackets became obsolete in the very early stages of Mg34 production. Fewer holes were built into later barrel jackets to increase the strength of the shroud.

I was wondering how many of these early 34's are out there.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Actually not very many, the earliest i have ever had was a 39 dated and i regret getting rid of it some years ago. I now have a DOT 44 intrim type of deact. Nice nick but still a 44. Would like to see some pics of the gun if you are amenable, PM me if you prefer but a nice early gun would be good for all to see.
If you tell me it came with an early milled top cover i shall cry immediately. Do you have any of the early kit for it at all? MG 13 style bipod etc ? Are the markings ok or has it been renumberd like many of them? Some guns in the states in the form of parts kits have some early dates but not always the early bits as they were changed in design for a reason, ie weaknesses, ease of manufacture etc.

I am waiting for my next bit to arrive , a trommelhalter type two for the doppeltrommel. Can't source any mags in the UK at all at the moment not even MG15 for display purposes. Found them in the states but the bloody customs charges are basically pure theft .

    Regards
    Tim

      Hello Tim,

No the top cover is the renumbered pressed steel type. I saw an early top cover for sale a couple of years back which went for silly money.

The weapon doesn't appear to have been re numbered, the markings are very clear and crisp.

I do own a Trommelhalter 34 but have only an MG15 saddledrum (Beltring 2 years back for £90 from a Dutch seller!).

I am not a paid up member but if someone can post the pictures I will gladly Email them out.

I may be able to help you out with MG15 saddle mags my friend had 2 for sale last year I'll drop him a line.

      Thank you,

      Mark.

        re 34

        Hi Mark.

Reckon if you can start sourcing the bits you would have yourself a very nice 34. I have its opposite number in my set up , a 37 dated bren.

Nice to hear that the original markings to the shroud are intact, its understandable when you see them barred out and renumberd ,lets face it they were built for a job not for collectors. Is your trommelhalter an original or is it one of the repro,s from the states. I was thinking of getting one of them out of interest as they appear to be modelled on the type 1 with the smaller catch and no dust flaps.

I very stupidly let an MG34 get away from me that was fitted with an early milled cover, i could have got another top cover and sold it off for the same price. Work got in the way and the guy assumed i had lost intrest and let it go.

If you could check out your contact it would be much appreciated. If it should not pan out i will have to ask a couple of guys i know if they can help me out
from the other side of the pond.

I take it you have a range of ancilliaries for the 34?

If you hit my name you should link up to the message system. Drop me a line and we can organise some pics for the boys

        Regards

        Tim

sorry guys to meddle in, but I have a question about the MG34. Normally I'm a helmet collector, but I want one for a change.
If you look at the site of Ryton, there are two different maker markings, with a different price range. First a DOT 1943 and second the more expensive BSW 1938.
What exact makes the price difference? only the maker mark? Which one should I take?
          Thanks in advance, regards Ivan

            Mg34

BSW would have lower production rates for sure, and secondly attrition rates...just imaging how many early dated guns were gobbled up in the morass of Russia. Chris....

I can't choose between the DOT and the BSW Do you think the price difference is justified?

                  MG34 Prices

Prices are different depending upon what side of the "pond" you are on. A lot of folks over here in the US are building up semiauto rifles out of the MG34 kits, so there is quite a demand in the regard....check this link out for BSW Kit prices over here....
                  http://brpguns.com/mg34.htm
They have sold Dot 43 kits in the past for 700-800$. Two years ago renumbered (Postwar Yugo reissues) kits were going for 450$....not now.....
Here's one way we build our kits into semiautos over here....
                  http://www.tnwfirearms.com/products_...iverkits.shtml

I personally enjoy these, and it's one more reason to stop the Hillary/Barack gun control schemes over here in the next election.... Chris....

Just saw this with my "late night surfing".....
                  http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=91328601
Will he get it? NO, but it does show the perceived value of early dated weapons....
