    Latest find, another P38!, "byf44"

Well, I told you guys on another thread that I recently found a large lot of P38s for sale. Today I went to visit one of the dealers that had several nice ones for sale, and this is what I went home with!
Its a lovely "byf 44" P38, all matching non-import of course. Finish is about 97%, and has lovely dark brown color grips.

close up of the left side shows us the later war rough machining done by Mauser. Also notice the finish.

both magazines are also correct, and are properly marked for this gun with the later Mauser code, "eagle/WaA135".

I also did a large amount of holster shopping as well (see other thread for more of my great holster finds!).

This holster is a minty 1944 pebble grain break-a-way type.

a close up shows us that this holster is nicely marked and dated "CXB 4". Also marked "P38" on the back.

                  Thanks Peppicek!
Sweet does come to mind when you look at this rig!
I guess no one else likes this one though?

                    Robert,

Here is the pebble grain holster that I told you about. Again, Minty!
Check out "Holster Heaven" to see the others that I was talking about. He also has P38 1943 hardshells for only $99 (but missing lift strap!)

Matt, do you have a link for holster heaven? I just picked up this JWA "4"
The thread looks like it was dyed black, and in some places its black on the inside like it what dyed before stitched. Is this normal? Other than that its in very good shape. I heard these came out of Ukraine along with all the other recent import p38s.

                        Jaeger,

Check out the thread, "Latest find, Holster Heaven". I posted a pic of my P38 holster marked "jwa4". It doesn't look the same as yours. Mine has all off-white stitching, and the maker marked is located directly below the "P38" marking, and not between the belt loops as yours is. Also no die marks inside the holster like you said.

                        Matt

                          jwa 4 marked holsters

I thought I also had seen black stitching on some of my P.38 holsters. A check revealed that two out of about twenty or so P.38 holsters had black stitching mixed with white stitching. These two are both jwa 4 marked. I have a total of four jwa 4 holsters. As to the marking placement. Three of these are marked jwa 4 between the belt loops(like Jaeger's holster). The fourth is marked jwa 4 under the P.38 marking(like Matt's). Here is a picture.

I saw one just like mine on e-stand. I suppose the variance in threads could be due to late-war. On another note, has anyone seen the ad in Shotgun news for the repro. holsters that are maker marked? Does anyone have pictures of these and how well are they done? I have the ad at work, I might be able to scan it in for any interested. My guess is it could be post war holsters, with that glossy brown finish and somebody waffenmeistered them.

Thanks for clearing that up J.! I really wasn't sure about it. The holster looked right to me, but stitching didn't match, and maker mark was in a different location. I didn't have another one to compare, but glad you did! Great job
