    Dress Bayo in the white??

Here's a dress bayo that appears in the white and not chromed. Maybe it was plated and it just all bubbled off or was cleaned off??

Also, is the red wool plug in the slot for the rifle lug original? Also note the piece is numbered "17".

    Commentd are appreciated...

I can make no comment relative to the bayo from a collector's standpoint, but I do find this interesting:

The shape of the butt part of the handle is virtually identical to early French trade knives used in the Indian trade during the first part of the 1700's in lower Canada, the present day Lake States and the Midwest areas under French control. These were known as "Eagle Head" knives, and were common in the area around Fort Ouiatenon, Indiana. I can see no possible connection with your bayo, naturally. Just seems to be an old shape for a handle.
