    OSS Silenced High Standard Mod.HD

I have in my collection a OSS Silenced High Standard USA Mod.HD. The pistole is stamped US.Property and was used from the O.S.S. Its a real one and not one of the new produced replica pistol! I am wondering if any of the experts here can tell me something about its market value. [IMG][/IMG]

Very interesting, rare and nice item! This is not my area of collecting or study but I can say that market value would be hard to evaluate from a US collectors perspective as this pistol would be (I beileve) impossible to register, import of sell here due it's classification. There may be like examples already registered here and hence transferable....maybe some will know what price range they sell for but I have never seen one offered.

      Amelinas,

I PM'd you, for some information.

      anyways,

      amazing find.

I have no idea what it's worth, but I know that wealthy collectors will easily give you thousands. just don't know how many thousands.

but they are going to want to inspect serial numbers and every part, so it would be hard to sell it overseas.

do you have to have a permit in germany to have a silencer?

or since the silencer was made with the gun, does it qualify as a curio and relic?

          well,

I found out there were only 2600 or so made (silenced)

the serial number range in known.

it should be worth a lot of money knowing that there are far more than 2600 potential collectors who throw money at guns.

          thanks for posting!!!

I love the photo grouping you made. very cool. I thought about collecting cold war items but they seem to be more rare.

I too have one of these and value runs between 2500 and 4500 it depends on whether you have some of its service history. If you have one of the rare three war pistols and it has SOG provenance then you go up to around 6k.

I saw a couple of these in VN some SOG guys had.
                      I had owned civilian versions.
                      These are very good pistols.
They also had a couple gyro jet pistols that had gotten into the chain somehow.
They were not used much and not highly regarded.

So since this OSS pistol is in Germany it sounds like it was captured from a OSS agent, is this the case?

Very nice pistol - thanks for posting the photos.

I recently observed one of these pistols on display at the Nimitz Museum in Texas. The pistol was said to be among the personal possessions of Adm. Chester Nimitz from his WWII service, and that he really enjoyed shooting it.

Obviously such a pistol would not have been an issue item for a U.S. Navy Admiral but, I suspect that with his rank, it was not too much trouble for Adm. Nimitz to obtain one of these pistols to do with as he pleased.

No, the history is that the pistol was used during the WWII in the occupied country of the Netherlands by OSS guys. Then the pistol was given to the Dutch underground fighters. After the war the pistol was in service and was given to an Dutch Museum. I got the pistol direct from the museum more then ten years ago.

Very interesting indeed. Mention is made of the "known" Silenced versions being used by OSS, does the one posted fit into this catagory of serial numbers? I have one Silenced version at our Museum here in the UK, if you check the British and Commonwealth section you will find it. Mine was made between 1938 and 1939. It may have been used by the SOE and not OSS. Regards, Clive.
