    M-1 Garand

Here are a few pictures of my M-1 Garand that I would like to share with you while I am at it. I picked it up at a gun show about 4 years ago.
I don't really know much about it so any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for looking!

    Mi Garand

So Far, Springfield Armoury MFG date is oct 1943, The same month as mine.
Check date on barrel with oprod in the rear, should be a MFG and date stamped on the barrel where the top wood and bottom wood are spaced.
If it is the same date as the reciever, you have a decent rifle. Most if not all M1s were rebuilt after the war, just as mine was. My barrel date is SA 4/45, my reciever is 2,198,xxx very close to yours. Some coincidence.
I see it has the early machined trigger guard also a good sign. All other parts would have to be checked as to lot # to see if it is any where near original
Unless you paid a couple thousand for it, it has been rebuilt. Also is there any stock cartouche on the left side below the rear sight?

      thanks for the info!

The stock is not original. I bought it knowing so. The date on the barrel is SA-12-43. I think that it is a possibility that it is original seeing that the date is so close...perhaps I am wrong. let me know what you think.
Also, if I found an original Springfield Armory stock, would it be wise to purchase and install it, or just keep with the stock that I have?

        Matt,

If it were me I would keep an eye out for an original stock. But how much I would pay, would depend on how much I got into the Gun to begin with?

Shoot it, show it off, Enjoy it! And if a good deal comes along on a original stock, snag it!

I have one. 1942 with some mixed dates. The first time I shot it it blew my mind! I haven't shot a 30.6 since I shot my Dads 1903 Springfield back when I was 16 years old! I cant imagine getting hit any where on your body with one of those and surviving, let alone getting up and walking away.
Kind of puts it in perspective what it was like on the battle field with dozens of those going off all around you. It's not surprising most of the guys doing the shooting wend deaf latter in life!
